Open & Junior Training

RYA Push The Boat Out

RYA Push the Boat Out

Come along and try sailing for free during our Push The Boat Out events in May.

  • Wednesday 2nd, 9th, 16th May from 6-8pm

There will be a variety of boats available for you to try including Fevas, toppers, lasers and Dart 16 catamarans. You may even be lucky enough to get a ride on one of our members’ F18 fast catamarans.

Pre booking is highly recommended so we have an idea of numbers, please use the contact us page to send us a message, giving us your name, age (if under 18) and details of any previous sailing experience (none required).

Please come along and try sailing. Its a great way to get active, make friends and have fun no matter what your ability!

Some kit is available to borrow but be prepared to get wet. Old trainers or wetsuit boots are highly recommended and essential for under 18s. If you already have a wetsuit or buoyancy aid please bring it along.

Wednesday Evening Training

Open & junior training nights run through the summer from the start of May (Wed 2nd) through to the end of September when the evenings become too short to get out on the water.

All are welcome to come along, bring a friend!

Some kit is available to borrow but be prepared to get wet. Old trainers or wetsuit boots are strongly recommended. If you already have a wetsuit, buoyancy aid or lifejacket please bring it along.

Sessions cost £3 for members or £10 for non-members (including temporary membership for the night). This goes towards safety cover and upkeep of club boats and safety equipment. All instructors and safety boat crew are volunteers. Membership details can be found on our membership page.

Boats

This year we have been given a grant by Sports Wales to purchase three RS Feva sailing dinghies. These are a starter to intermediate double handed boat that are ideally suited to an adult and child or two/three children or teenagers to learn to sail, but can also be used with a race kit including an asymmetric spinnaker for race training and competing up to national level. Several of our youth members raced competitively in a borrowed Feva last year and will be helping to train our juniors this year.

We normally also have the club Dart 16 catamarans out plus a few Toppers and maybe a Laser so we have suitable boats however experienced you are. Whilst we race the Darts with a crew of two people, for training nights we can fit the whole family on board and we have several experienced sailors to help you out and get your confidence up. We also have a safety boat that is on the water the whole time both instructing and keeping an eye on everyone.

This includes use of club boats or your own boat, safety cover from our RIB and coaching if required/requested. The money goes towards safety boat fuel and maintenance, and maintenance of club boats. All coaches and instructors are volunteers, and so you are asked to help rig boats and pack all borrowed kit away.
